On the afternoon of July 22, the Border Guard Command (BDBP) said that in recognition of its outstanding achievements in performing its tasks, the Border Guard Command has submitted a document to the Ministry of National Defense to award Certificates of Merit to 2 groups and 6 individuals of the Border Guard forces of Quang Ninh and Ha Tinh provinces for their outstanding achievements in rescue work, contributing to protecting people's lives and property.
These are collectives and individuals who directly participated in the rescue of the Green Bay 58 ship and the Nguyen Ngoc tourist ship in harsh weather conditions.
Along with that, the Border Guard Command decided to award Certificates of Merit to 4 collectives and 10 individuals for their outstanding achievements in rescue work, contributing to the protection of people's lives and property.
As reported, on July 19, the QN 7105 ship, while traveling on route 2, in Ha Long Bay (Quang Ninh province), unfortunately overturned due to a sudden thunderstorm. There were 46 passengers and 3 crew members on board.
Immediately after the incident, the Border Guard of Quang Ninh province directed the Border Guard Station of Hon Gai port to coordinate with other forces to quickly approach the scene to search and rescue.
At 5:00 p.m. on July 19, Colonel Nguyen Quang Hoa - Commander of the Border Guard of Quang Ninh province - said that the unit coordinated with the forces to rescue 10 people. By 5:45 p.m. the same day, 10 people, including passengers and crew members (Quang Ninh Provincial Border Guard rescued 7 people, people were rescued by a civil boat); 3 bodies of the victims were recovered. At 6:00 p.m. the same day, 2 more people were rescued.
Also on July 19, in the waters of Thien Cam, a tourist boat owned by Mr. Nguyen Trong Hoang, carrying 34 people, was encountering thunderstorms and heavy rain while en route to shore.
After that, the ship was sunk by waves in the Boc island area, about 0.5 nautical miles from the coast of Thien Cam (Ha Tinh province), forcing everyone to jump off the vehicle. Fortunately, at the time of the accident, all passengers and crew members were wearing life jackets.
Upon receiving the news, Thien Cam Border Guard Station and Ha Tinh Provincial Border Guard urgently deployed forces, coordinated with Thien Cam commune authorities to mobilize heavy-duty ships operating near the sunken ship area to approach the scene and rescue.
Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Khoi - Head of Thien Cam Border Guard Station - said: "After reaching, we quickly organized a rescue and took everyone to shelter on the island. It was not until 0:30 on July 20 that the whirlwinds stopped and everyone was safely brought to shore. After about 5 hours of continuous efforts, all 4 crew members and 30 tourists were brought safely to shore by the rescue team."
The timely commendation demonstrates the recognition of the Central Military Commission, the Ministry of National Defense; the Party Committee, and the Border Guard Command for their sense of responsibility, bravery, and readiness to accept and complete tasks in dangerous and complicated weather conditions of Border Guard officers and soldiers. This is also a motivation for the entire force to continue promoting the tradition, contributing to firmly protecting sovereignty and national border security, for the peaceful life of the people.
