On the morning of September 19, at the Malaysian National Assembly Headquarters, Speaker of the Malaysian House of Representatives Tan Sri Dato' Johari bin Abdul presided over the welcoming ceremony for Politburo member and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and the high-ranking delegation of the Vietnamese National Assembly. Immediately after the welcoming ceremony, the two sides held talks.
At the meeting, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tan Sri Dato' Johari bin Abdul highly appreciated the significance of the first official visit to Malaysia by National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, expressing his belief that the visit will promote cooperation between the two legislative bodies, contribute to the effective implementation of the Vietnam - Malaysia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership as well as make an important contribution to the success of the 46th AIPA General Assembly.
National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man highly appreciated Malaysia's role and contributions as ASEAN Chair and AIPA Chair, affirming that Vietnam will support Malaysia in successfully damining the role of ASEAN Chair 2025 and AIPA 46 Chair to build a united, unified ASEAN and play a central role in the region.
Discussing the results of the meeting with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, the two sides expressed their satisfaction with the positive and substantial developments of the relationship in recent times.
To promote Vietnam - Malaysia cooperation in the new period to be increasingly effective, in-depth and substantial, the two sides agreed that it is necessary to continue to strengthen political trust, promptly implement the Action Program for the period 2025 - 2030 to implement the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership; further facilitate economic, trade and investment cooperation to soon achieve the trade turnover target of 18 billion USD in a more balanced direction, focusing on potential areas such as Halal, renewable energy, green energy, digital transformation, agriculture, tourism, education and training;
Strengthen maritime cooperation, coordinate effectively in handling illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing activities, and create conditions for the EU to soon remove the yellow card for Vietnam's fisheries sector. The two sides also agreed to increase people-to-people exchanges, especially the younger generation, to not only foster friendship between the two countries but also for the ASEAN community.
The two leaders agreed to promote cooperation on the parliamentary channel through increasing exchanges of high-level delegations, Party committees, exchanges of female parliamentarians and young parliamentarians; sharing information and experience in developing and perfecting a suitable legal framework, creating favorable conditions to implement new contents/areas of cooperation within the framework of the newly established Comprehensive Strategic Partnership; promoting cooperation in monitoring the effective implementation of international treaties and cooperation agreements signed between the two governments.
The National Assembly of Vietnam and the Malaysian Parliament will continue to closely coordinate and support each other at multilateral forums such as the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF) ... contributing to maintaining a peaceful, stable and developing environment in the region and the world.
