Vietnam - Thailand agree to open many new flight routes

On the afternoon of May 16, 2025, Politburo member and President Luong Cuong received Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that President Luong Cuong warmly welcomed Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra and the high-ranking delegation of the Thai Royal Government on an official visit to Vietnam; congratulated the great achievements that the Thai Government and people have achieved in recent times, especially in economic recovery and development.

The President highly appreciated the two countries' reconnaissance mechanisms between the two Prime Ministers of the two countries after nearly 9 years, showing the determination of the two sides to promote the cooperation of the two countries more and more deeply, in fact, more effectively, meeting the new development requirements of each country as well as adapting to the new situation of the world.

Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra was pleased to announce to President Luong Cuong the successful results of the 4th general cabinet meeting between the two countries, in which the two sides discussed and agreed on many issues of bilateral cooperation as well as signed many cooperation documents in many fields.

Affirming the consistent implementation of the external policy of independence, multilateralization, diversification of relations, being active and responsible members of the international community, President Luong Cuong emphasized that the Party, the State and the people of Vietnam always attach great importance to and desire to promote friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Thailand; Appreciating the successful results of the 4th Cabinet Vietnam - Thailand, especially the two sides announced the upgrade of the two countries' relations to a comprehensive strategic partner, opening a new stage of cooperation between the two countries, increasingly deeper and more effective.

President Luong Cuong suggested that the two sides closely coordinate and effectively implement the contents of the new framework of relations, including expanding delegation exchanges, high-level and all-level contacts; effectively maintaining the mechanism of general cabinet meetings and bilateral cooperation mechanisms; continuing to closely coordinate and support each other at regional and international forums, especially ASEAN, the United Nations, APEC, etc.

The two leaders agreed that the two sides need to effectively promote cooperation potential, including strengthening defense and security cooperation, promoting cooperation in preventing transnational crimes, especially drug crimes, human trafficking, and online fraud; promoting economic and trade cooperation, creating conditions and supporting businesses of the two countries to increase investment in each country; promoting people-to-people exchanges, and opening more flights connecting localities of the two countries.

President Luong Cuong thanked and suggested that the Thai Government continue to pay attention to and create conditions for the Vietnamese community working and living in Thailand, as well as support Vietnamese associations in the locality; preserve and promote the cultural and historical values of Vietnam in Thailand.

On this occasion, President Luong Cuong sent his regards and invitation to the King of Thailand to visit Vietnam. Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra thanked and said he would convey the invitation to the King and respectfully invite President Luong Cuong to visit Thailand.
