Determine the drug addiction status for people from July 2026

Clause 1, Article 27 of the Law on Drug Prevention and Control (effective from July 1, 2026) stipulates that the determination of drug addiction status is carried out for people in the following cases:

a) People who illegally use drugs and are under management are found to have illegally used drugs;

b) Illegal drug users who do not have a stable place of residence;

c) People who are currently subject to administrative and educational handling measures in communes, wards, and towns due to illegal use of narcotics or within 01 year from the date of completion of administrative and educational handling measures in communes, wards, and towns due to illegal use of narcotics and are found to have used narcotics illegally;

d) People who are in post-drug rehabilitation management and are found to be using illegal drugs;

e) People who voluntarily determine their drug addiction status.

Thus, from July 1, 2026, the above-mentioned people are identified as drug addicts.
