Admission combinations are tightened, students reorient
To date, many universities across the country have begun to announce their expected enrollment plans for 2026. Notably, some majors considered for admission according to the C00 group (Literature - History - Geography) have been eliminated or reduced in scope.
At the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Hanoi), the school plans not to consider the C00 combination for 15 training majors. Some schools have completely abandoned this complex such as: Political Officer School, Border Guard Academy...
The fact that many schools have stopped or tightened the admission of the C00 group for university admission in 2026 still makes students confused.
Sharing with PV of Lao Dong Newspaper, Nguyen Tran Duc Anh - a student of class 12A5, Hung Vuong High School (Quang Ninh province) - said that the change in the admission plan has disrupted his learning orientation and created great pressure in the final year of high school.
"I chose to start studying C00 from grade 10. My intention is to enter the Law major of the Border Guard Academy. I feel worried because when many schools tighten the admission quota for the C00 block, the opportunities for students in this block will gradually narrow. Instead of having a relaxed mindset, I am quite stressed with thoughts like how to start over with other subjects" - Duc Anh shared.
Also choosing the C00 block for the university entrance exam, Nguyen Ngoc Nhu Y - a student of class 12A4, Cam Pha High School (Quang Ninh province) - although worried, chose to improve her knowledge and adjust the exam block to register for the exam.
"At first, I planned to use the C00 block to apply for the Journalism major of the Hanoi University of Social Sciences and Humanities. After reading the information, although I could not help but feel disappointed and worried, my love for journalism has increased since high school, urging me not to give up" - Nhu Y expressed.
Although he knew that changing the exam block at the present time would be difficult, Nhu Y had a new roadmap for herself. I choose to focus on reviewing English to be able to switch to the D14 or D15 combination. "These groups all have two subjects of my own expertise in advance, so learning a foreign language will be somewhat easier for me" - Nhu Y shared.
Directions to help students adjust in a timely manner
From the perspective of a teacher, Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai Phuong - Geography teacher, Da Phuc High School (Hanoi) - commented that many universities stopping admission to the C00 block when there are only a few months left until the 2026 high school graduation exam will cause more difficulties for candidates.
According to her, most of the students have studied the exam block and then chosen the learning path right from the first years of high school. "Change the admission method requires a suitable roadmap for each specific stage, closely following the needs and aspirations of candidates. Universities also need to avoid announcing during the final stage, making it difficult for students to adjust in time" - Ms. Mai Phuong said.
For students who have put a lot of effort into the C00 block but are still hesitant, Ms. Mai Phuong suggests that they can consider subject combinations similar to C00 such as C03 and C04.
"Children can choose the most recent combinations with C00 as C03, C04, increasing review time for subjects such as Math and English. Participating in courses and preparations is also one of the effective solutions to supplement knowledge in the current period" - Ms. Mai Phuong shared.
