On September 1st, Melon - the largest music platform in Korea - announced the latest results from the music data analysis platform Data Lab showing that BIGBANG's new song "BiiiG" quickly dominated the charts.
Immediately after being released on August 19, "BiiiG" immediately swept major domestic and international music charts. The song also rose to number 1 on Melon Top 100 and Melon's daily charts.
“BiiiG” also topped Genie and Bugs' real-time charts, and also topped Vibe's rising song chart in Korea. On Flo, the song reached 2nd place.
The appeal of "BiiiG" also spread to the international market. The song reached number 2 on iTunes Worldwide Song Chart on August 19 and topped the charts in many countries and territories such as Japan, Hong Kong (China) and the Philippines.
Notably, BIGBANG's old songs also witnessed a strong comeback. Songs released 20 years ago were once again found by listeners and climbed to the charts.
According to Melon, "Haru Haru", "Still Life" and "Last Dance", songs listed for performance at BIGBANG's recent "XX: COSMOS in Goyang" concert, all recorded a significant increase in popularity.
This platform said that fans listened to BIGBANG's songs again to prepare for the group's 20th anniversary, as well as to relive the emotions after attending the concert.
Haru Haru" is the song with the strongest increase. According to Data Lab, the song averaged 224th on Melon's daily chart in July, before rising to the highest position of 67th in the Top 100 on August 24.
The song especially received positive feedback after the concert, evoking a nostalgic feeling in fans. The number of listens to "Haru Haru" increased by about 298% compared to the average of July.
Still Life" also rose from an average of 231 in July to 86th in the Top 100. Meanwhile, "Last Dance" first returned to the charts at 100 on August 23, then rose to 90th.
Not only new songs achieve high results, BIGBANG's name alone is enough to create momentum for the group's "music store" on the charts. When adding the number of listens of all BIGBANG songs released on Melon, the total number of streams has increased by 333% compared to the previous month.
BIGBANG is on a tour to celebrate their 20th anniversary of debut. The group is scheduled to perform at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum, California (USA) on September 4th and 5th.
