Cinema creates attraction for Vietnamese tourism
In the context that the Vietnamese film market is showing positive signs in terms of box office revenue, the requirement is not only to make quality films but also to better exploit cultural values and stimulate tourism from a film work.
From the footage, landscapes, culture, cuisine and life of each locality, it can reach millions of viewers. The evocative images on screen not only create an impression of a work but can also arouse the need to explore, experience, and turn cinematic settings into attractive tourist destinations in reality.
Artist Quyen Linh believes that Vietnam owns many natural film studios but has not fully exploited its potential. According to him, instead of having to invest a very large amount of capital to build artificial film studios, Vietnam can take advantage of the existing natural landscapes in provinces and cities to create conditions for film crews to come to produce.
We beat them in traditional values, values of convenience, emotions and Vietnamese people" - artist Quyen Linh shared.
This is also the advantage that Vietnamese cinema can exploit in the process of integration. Filmmaking technology in the world is increasingly developing, so competing with simple techniques is not easy. Meanwhile, landscapes, culture, history and people are separate values, difficult to copy.
If a locality creates conditions in terms of location, procedures and costs for film crews to produce, the film after completion can become a form of natural promotion for that locality itself.
From film setting to tourist destination
Ninh Binh is an example mentioned when many film crews come to exploit the landscape. Images of mountains, rivers, villages and cultural life when appearing on screen can create curiosity, encouraging audiences to learn and experience reality. In recent years, Ninh Binh province has not only attracted a large number of tourists but has also been chosen by many domestic and international filmmakers as the setting for famous films such as: "Silent Americans", "Two Daughters of the Medicine Garden Owner"... In particular, in 2016, Ninh Binh was chosen as 1 of 3 locations in Vietnam to film the famous movie Kong: Skull Island directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts.
Artist Quyen Linh said: The Vietnam Cinema Association is aiming to better exploit the natural film studio system in provinces and cities. Vietnam has many beautiful landscapes, even some locations have not been fully exploited for cinema.
In my opinion, instead of having to spend a very large budget to build artificial film studios, we can completely take advantage of existing natural film studios. These settings are both realistic, suitable for cinema, and loved by artists and filmmakers. The Association can connect with localities, create conditions for locations, reduce costs, and even support film crews to film, thereby promoting Vietnamese settings internationally" - the male artist expressed.
He expects that in the coming time, provinces and cities with natural film studios will be more open to welcoming film crews, and at the same time have appropriate support policies to both create conditions for filmmakers to produce quality works and promote the landscape and culture of the locality. The biggest goal is that Vietnamese cinema will not only tell good stories about the country but also make audiences want to set foot in places where those stories are told. At that time, the screen will become a bridge connecting culture, cinema and tourism, contributing to bringing the image of Vietnam closer to the domestic and international public.
