Moc Chau tourism interrupted by storm No. 11

Đan Thanh |

Many central roads of Moc Chau ward were flooded due to the circulation of storm No. 11 causing continuous heavy rain. Tourism activities stagnated.

Due to the influence of storm No. 11, from the morning of October 6 to the end of October 7, Son La province will have moderate rain, heavy rain, some places with very heavy rain and thunderstorms.

Since the beginning of the week, Moc Chau ward, Son La province has had moderate to heavy rain, causing flooding and landslides in some localities.

After only 30-40 minutes of heavy rain, many roads and neighborhoods in the center of Moc Chau were heavily flooded such as Thao Nguyen ward, To Hieu ward, Moc Son ward... This is an area with many restaurants and eateries, near tourist destinations in Moc Chau.

Heavy rain and water from the hillsides poured down onto the road, making it difficult for vehicles and people to travel. In many areas, strong water flows combined with steep terrain have washed away furniture, motorbikes, etc.

In Muong Bu and Chieng Lao communes, there were traffic jams at 5 locations on National Highway 279D due to the impact of flooding, landslides, etc. Units are mobilizing workers and vehicles to fix and open traffic as soon as possible if the weather is favorable.

According to Quang Kien, a local tour guide, in previous years, Moc Chau had light flooding but the water receded quickly. However, this year, the recent and current storms No. 10 and the circulation of storm No. 11 have affected, with heavy rainfall and continuous rain, many tourist attractions are flooded. Many tourists have to postpone their travel plans to Moc Chau.

In Son La province, at about 7:30 a.m. on October 6, at Km80+300 National Highway 279D, through Muong Bu commune, a landslide occurred with an estimated volume of about 20,000m3, causing traffic congestion.

Heavy rain caused local flooding in Thuan Chau, Yen Chau, Mai Son communes, Moc Son ward, Chieng Sinh ward and To Hieu ward... Many inter-commune roads had small, slippery landslides, making traffic difficult.

Previously, speaking with Lao Dong, Mr. Tran Xuan Viet - Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Son La - said: "Tourists in tourist areas, destinations or at accommodation facilities are advised to limit travel, depending on weather developments and warning information. The Department also closely monitors and coordinates with the authorities of communes and wards to ensure tourism activities take place as safely as possible".

The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Son La province coordinates with relevant units to promptly update warnings about security, safety, storms, floods, and traffic to bring the fastest information to tourists.

Not only Son La, in the context of continued storms, local authorities and tourism sectors in the Northern provinces are focusing on responding to and overcoming the consequences to ensure the safety of people and tourists.

Proactively ensuring safety for tourists

Localities such as Tuyen Quang, Son La, Quang Ninh, Hai Phong have proactively implemented response measures: Stop festivals, stop river tourism activities, temporarily suspend boat licensing to go to sea, tie up coastal establishments, advise tourists to limit travel and adjust their schedules...
