Sharing with Lao Dong reporters, Meritorious Artist Kieu Minh Hieu - Director of the Vietnam Drama Theater - said that this year may be the last year that artists organize the death anniversary of the Stage profession at No. 1 Trang Tien, Hanoi.
According to Meritorious Artist Kieu Minh Hieu, on September 11, representatives of the Vietnam National Drama Theatre were invited to a meeting with functional agencies of Cua Nam ward (Hanoi) on the Hoan Kiem Lake urban space planning project, which is expected to include the location of the Vietnam National Drama Theatre (No. 1 Trang Tien). The plan is being consulted with the people.
Previously, from 2024, according to Decision No. 3117/QD-BVHTTDL of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism), the Vietnam Drama Theater facility 2 will be built at 20 Hoang Quoc Viet.
The construction of a new facility for the Vietnam Drama Theater is also mentioned in the Planning of the network of cultural and sports facilities for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2045.
Meritorious Artist Kieu Minh Hieu said that facility 20 Hoang Quoc Viet is expected to be completed in 2029.
If there is a relocation plan, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will arrange a temporary workplace for the theater, before the new facility is completed," said the Director of the Vietnam Drama Theater.
Artist Kieu Minh Hieu has nearly 30 years of attachment to the Vietnam Drama Theater. With address No. 1 Trang Tien, he and his colleagues have had many sublime performance nights here with the audience: "We completely agree with the policy of the Hanoi People's Committee on plans related to the spatial planning around Hoan Kiem Lake. We will also be sad when saying goodbye to address No. 1 Trang Tien.
The Vietnam Drama Theater has a long history of development, called the "red elder brother" of the spoken drama art scene. When saying goodbye to a familiar address, we have many thoughts but also feel happy because of the changes taking place.
What the Director of the Vietnam Drama Theater is concerned about is that in the past, the Theater was located in the central axis of the streets, when the audience said "going to Hoan Kiem Lake" meant having sightseeing, eating ice cream and watching drama.
When the theater moves to its new address at 20 Hoang Quoc Viet, the audience's travel will be further, the Theater Board of Directors will have to consider ticket sales and revenue.
Speaking about the autonomy of theaters, Mr. Hieu expressed: "If theaters switch to a autonomous mechanism, we will have to be autonomous in terms of personnel, revenue... We need about 100 positions of civil servants and actors, but currently there are only 63 people... Theaters are lacking sound directors, lighting directors and have not recruited...".
Meritorious Artist Trinh Mai Nguyen - Deputy Director of the Vietnam Drama Theater - expressed: "I have been attached to this place for 29 years, just closing my eyes, I can imagine every corner of the theater.
Not only us, but the older retirees also cannot avoid feeling regret, but we are all united to have better development.
Meritorious Artist Mai Nguyen also expressed hope that in the future, the Vietnam Drama Theater, regardless of the address, will develop, meet the tastes of viewers, and have many quality and attractive plays.
