On August 31, information from the People's Committee of Khanh Hoa province said that the locality has just launched the "Ceramic Product Design of the Cham people" contest in 2026.
The contest is organized to find creative ideas, combining the traditional cultural values of the Cham Bau Truc pottery craft with modern design thinking.
This is also an activity to enhance brand value, connect artisans and designers with the craft village.
The entries are oriented quite diversely, including souvenirs; household products, household appliances; interior and exterior decoration products; fine arts and art products and products serving cultural and tourism activities.
The contest consists of 2 rounds, in which in the preliminary round, contestants submit registration forms, drawings or 2D, 3D design models and idea explanations.
Candidates need to clarify the cultural value, function, object of use, size, material, production capacity and commercialization of the product.
A noteworthy point in the preliminary round is that authors are not required to make products using traditional materials and techniques of Bau Truc pottery village.
Quality ideas will be selected for the final round to be completed into practical products.
For authors in Khanh Hoa, the Organizing Committee encourages the use of raw materials and traditional craft techniques of the Cham Bau Truc pottery profession.
If necessary, the author can be connected with artisans, cooperatives or production facilities in the craft village to complete the product according to the design idea.
For authors in other provinces and cities and abroad, products entering the final round can be completed according to appropriate ratios. Large-sized products are allowed to make miniature models in ratios such as 1:5, 1:10 or 1:20.
The Organizing Committee encourages new designs that are environmentally friendly, capable of production, commercialization and market development.
The works are scored on a 100-point scale. In which, creativity and aesthetic value account for 30 points; applicability and commercialization ability 30 points; cultural value, inheritance and promotion of the identity of the Cham Bau Truc pottery profession 20 points; feasibility in production and quality of idea explanation 20 points.
The contest has 1 First Prize, 2 Second Prizes, 3 Third Prizes and 10 Consolation Prizes. The closing ceremony, announcement of results and award ceremony is expected to take place on October 10, associated with the Katê Festival activities of the Cham people.
The Organizing Committee receives exam applications until the end of September 10, 2026, at the Khanh Hoa Provincial Cultural Center (No. 05 2/4 Street, Nha Trang Ward). Candidates can submit directly or send via post.
