“Love in the Big City” is the project that marks the return of Kim Go Eun after the success of the movie “Exhuma”. The actress takes on the role of Jae Hee - a free-spirited girl who doesn’t care what others think of her.
Talking about her role, Kim Go Eun said that her real life is quite different from Jae Hee. “I don’t party like Jae Hee. When I was in college, I lived near Gangnam Station (Seoul, Korea), where all the lively bars were in 2010. My work time coincided with the time bar-goers went home, so I was often jostled. I never thought of going to a nightclub by myself.”
However, to prepare for the role, Kim Go Eun had an interesting experience when she first went to a bar. “I realized that bars are fun places, and the music is great. There, I danced my heart out, and this also helped me to realistically portray the scene where Jae Hee goes to the bar in the movie.”
According to Hankook Ilbo, although it has only been premiered since October 2 in Korea, “Love in the Big City” is receiving many positive responses. For Kim Go Eun, the reviews praising the film make her feel relieved.
“I always worry when a film is released. Our film is funny but not superficial. It strikes a balance between humor and depth, giving the audience a lot to think about.”
However, the actress revealed that the filming process also faced many challenges when the production cost was not high. “We had to film everything within 2 and a half months, which created a lot of pressure. However, everyone worked together with the determination to bring the audience a movie worth watching.”
This is also considered Kim Go Eun's career goal. The actress said that she is always proud of her work. She is grateful and happy to live her dream of becoming an actress. Especially when, after each project, Kim Go Eun learns many things and becomes more mature.
“When a project ends, I always take time to reflect. Growth isn’t always immediately noticeable, but after a few years, I can look back and see that I’ve improved. Everyone’s experience builds over time, and they gradually improve.
Nowadays, I always try to maintain a comfortable feeling at work. I think my charm comes out when I'm relaxed. Even in acting, I can express what I'm thinking more naturally when I'm relaxed.
Because in reality, when you want to do something so well, there comes a point where you start to feel overwhelmed, and that actually stops you from doing what you want to do. So I changed my thinking to relieve that pressure,” the actress explained.
