On the evening of January 15, it was recorded that the Saigon River tunnel (also known as Thu Thiem tunnel) in the direction from District 1 (formerly) through Thu Duc City (formerly) experienced prolonged congestion. Many vehicles including motorbikes and cars followed each other, moving little by little for about 1 km.

It is known that the cause of prolonged congestion in the tunnel is due to a traffic collision between cars. Until after 8 pm, the Ben Thanh Traffic Police Team under the Traffic Police Department (PC08) of Ho Chi Minh City Police was still coordinating with Ben Thanh Ward Police (Ho Chi Minh City) to investigate the cause of the collision in the Saigon River tunnel. Fortunately, the accident did not injure anyone.

Mr. Nguyen Hoang Nam (formerly residing in Thu Duc City) said that the traffic collision occurred at around 5 pm, during rush hour, vehicles were crowded, leading to prolonged congestion. "I had to move slowly for about 20 minutes to get out of the tunnel," Mr. Nam said.
