On July 2, at a workshop with the theme "Imprints of Vietnamese war films since the day of national reunification" within the framework of the 3rd Da Nang Asian Film Festival, Film Director Bui Tuan Dung gave a presentation on the topic of real value in a war film.
According to director Bui Tuan Dung, a film is valuable, first of all, it must make viewers feel attracted by a story of enough weight and profound characters. After watching, people have to think, ask questions, and even change their perception of seemingly simple things. It could be a lesson in humanity, loss, overcoming, or simply kindness in chaos.
A film is often determined by three values: content - authentic, profound, attractive; art - the result of many creative departments; and the system of emotions - the result of the message of the work's ideology.

"The same goes for war films. Good films need to honestly recreate the setting and characters, accurately reflect the event, not paint in pink. It must show viewers both glory and tragedy, going deep into the life, choices and true nature of the character. A soldier is not only a fighting tool, but also a father, a son - a person with emotions, love, and responsibility.
Artistic value is a formal element: setting, costumes, special effects, sound, film making - all must be carefully researched to create a realistic atmosphere. However, if you abuse the technique, it will be counterproductive. storytelling art is a key factor," director Bui Tuan Dung emphasized.
Finally, the emotions and the message are humane. War films are not to incite violence, but to remind that peace is sacred. A value war film is not a propaganda but an inspiration, for viewers to think for themselves.
Director Bui Tuan Dung believes that a most valuable war film is a film that makes people watch it silently. Not because of shock, but because of absorption. absorbing pain, loss, patriotism, and the desire to live in a world without guns.
"Valued films are films that make people move, laugh, cry, and be silent. After watching, real and deep emotions are the things that stay the longest. film is not about watching and forgetting, but about remembering and living with it.
It makes people want to look back, or not dare to look back because it is haunting. A film or not is not necessarily a blockbuster, does not need many awards - but a film that makes people become a different person, even a little bit," Mr. Dung emphasized.
