The movie "Mad concrete dreams" (Vietnamese title: Giấc mộng bê tông) revolves around Ki Soo Jong (Ha Jung Woo) - the building owner who is facing financial pressure, forced to plunge into a criminal vortex to protect his family and property.
Although he has achieved a dream position, heavy debts have caused him to participate in a staged kidnapping. However, the plan quickly went out of control, leading to a series of dangerous consequences.
From here, Soo Jong and his wife Kim Seon (Im Soo Jung) are constantly pushed into extreme situations, increasingly sinking deeper into the vortex of crime. The climax is pushed up when their daughter is kidnapped, leading to a series of secrets being revealed and a series of continuous tragedies.
After 8 episodes, "Concrete Dream" attracts attention with a series of dramatic details revolving around the dream of owning real estate - where people are willing to trade everything to achieve it. However, this implementation method also reveals limitations, causing the work to gradually "cool down".
In which, the script is sometimes over-detailed and has a series of events. From a fake kidnapping, the story quickly expands into a chain of overlapping crimes, making the film's plot heavy.
The character's motives are not convincing enough as most of the behavior revolves around money and ambition. Many extreme decisions are made quickly, mainly influenced by material interests, but lack a clear psychological transition process.
The exploitation of real estate topics - although topical - is handled in the direction of excessive dramatization, making the "domino" effect in the story become rushed, lack of restraint and gradually reduce the emotional weight.
These limitations are partly reflected in the viewership rating. The film opened with ratings of 4.1% and 4.5% in the first two episodes, but then continuously decreased, down to 2.9% and 2.8% in the most recent episodes. This achievement is lower than Han Ji Min's romantic film, which reached 4-5% at the same time.
This shows that even with a cast of talented actors and a potentially rich topic, maintaining stable appeal is still a difficult problem for "Concrete Dream".
