“Nocturnal” tells the story of Bae Min Tae (Ha Jung Woo) - who begins a journey to discover the truth behind the mysterious death of his younger brother Seok Tae.
The disappearance of Moon Young - his younger brother's wife and the best-selling novel by novelist Kang Ho Ryung (Kim Nam Gil) that strangely predicts the incident make Min Tae suspicious.
To protect her novel and her reputation, Ho Ryung sets out to find the missing Moon Young. During this process, Ho Ryung and Min Tae constantly clash. However, their ultimate goal is to uncover the truth behind the case.
Sharing with Korean media about the work, Ha Jung Woo said this is a fierce but new work about the familiar theme of revenge.
The actor added that director Kim Jin Hwang's unique vision was an important factor in his decision to undertake this project.
“I was drawn to Kim Jin Hwang because of the personal experiences he weaved into the script. I felt like the director had lava-like energy bubbling beneath his gentle demeanor and he wanted to release those emotions through this film,” he said.
Regarding the somewhat violent personality of the character Bae Min Tae, Ha Jung Woo emphasized that it was the director's intentional choice.
“There are scenes where Min Tae uses excessive violence, with the reason being his younger brother’s death. I found it interesting that the director created this character with that perspective because it is different from the characters I have played in recent years,” he said.
According to the actor, no matter what time it is, he still craves to pursue challenges and innovations in his acting career.
“When choosing a project, I don’t differentiate between veteran and new directors. In recent years, I’ve found myself working with many people I’ve never worked with before.
Like with “Nocturnal,” I worked with an incredibly interesting crew who helped me discover new sides of myself,” he shared.
Korean media has high expectations for Ha Jung Woo's transformation. The actor's many clashes with Kim Nam Gil's character promise to bring viewers impressive footage.
The movie “Nocturnal” is scheduled to be released on February 5 in Korea.
In Vietnam, the film has not yet set a release date.
