The movie "Phí Phông: Quỷ máu rừng thiêng" officially reached the 100 billion VND mark at noon on April 23.
This achievement was set after only 6.5 days of screening, with more than 1.2 million tickets sold, and also set a record for Vietnamese horror films to reach 100 billion VND in revenue fastest ever.
Premiered early from April 16, director Do Quoc Trung's work quickly created a box office fever. Before reaching the 100 billion mark, the film had continuously set many records for Vietnamese horror films such as pre-booking revenue reaching 13 billion VND, daily revenue the highest of nearly 20 billion VND and the 70 billion VND mark after only 3.5 days of release, accounting for 85% of the national box office market share.
Not only attracting attention in terms of revenue, "Phí Phông: Quỷ máu rừng thiêng" is also highly appreciated for its different approach in the horror genre. Instead of abusing direct scare elements, the film chooses a "open" narrative style, constantly re-questioning what viewers think is true. The film's pace is built in a tense and prolonged direction, where fear does not come from sudden images but from instability in perception.
The content revolves around the journey of two characters Con (Kieu Minh Tuan), Duong (Doan Minh Anh) to the high mountains to save their mother, from there being drawn into a series of strange phenomena related to the legend of "PI Phong" - a blood-sucking entity in the sacred forest. The deeper they go, the more vague the boundary between humans and supernatural forces becomes, leading to the secrets of their identities gradually being revealed.
Besides the script, the visuals are considered an important highlight. The crew chose to film in Moc Chau, fully exploiting the pristine beauty of the Northwest mountains and forests.
The space of Ta Phinh village is elaborately built with a system of stilt houses, living settings and local cultural details, contributing to creating the mysterious and mysterious color characteristic of the film.
