In recent months, the number of Chinese tourists entering the country through border gates in Mong Cai to travel in Quang Ninh has been quite large. Meanwhile, the number of Chinese visitors to Vietnam by air or other border gates across the country and to Quang Ninh also tends to increase.
According to some managers of 4-5 star hotels in Bai Chay, from now until the end of the year, their hotels have almost been fully booked to serve Chinese tourists.
According to the Mong Cai International Border Gate Management Board, currently, the number of people entering and exiting Mong Cai, including Bac Luan 1 and 2 border gates, is about 20,000 people per day, including tourists and people traveling for other purposes and tasks.
On October 11, 2025, nearly 22,000 people entered and exited, including more than 11,800 people. On October 12, more than 20,000 people entered and exited, including more than 11,000. On October 13, nearly 24,000 people entered and exited, of which more than 12,000 people entered.
Since the beginning of the year, more than 5.9 million people have entered and exited through border gates and openings in the province. Of which, Mong Cai International Border Gate accounts for the largest number with more than 5.6 trips, an increase of 7% over the same period in 2024.
According to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Ninh province, the Chinese tourist market always accounts for a high proportion of the international tourist market to Quang Ninh. At the time of 2018, Chinese visitors accounted for about 35 - 40% of total international visitors staying in Quang Ninh.
In 2024, Chinese visitors staying in Quang Ninh will reach 551,250; Chinese visitors through Mong Cai Border Gate will reach 370,500.
In the first 9 months of 2025, Chinese visitors staying in Quang Ninh reached 427,650 (equal to 115.9% compared to the first 9 months of 2024); Chinese visitors through Mong Cai Border Gate reached 248,800 (equal to 104.4% compared to the first 9 months of 2024).
It is forecasted that in the last months of 2025, there will be about 350,000 - 400,000 Chinese visitors to Quang Ninh. There will be many groups with over 1,000 visitors/group, and other 2,000 groups/group.
Compared to previous years, Chinese tourists to Quang Ninh now use the service relatively high (70% use the 4-5 star hotel service). Most Chinese visitors to Quang Ninh follow the 3-day, 2-night program (accounting for about 50 - 60%); Currently, the 3-day, 4-night program is being promoted by businesses, offering for sale and has attracted customers.
In addition to Ha Long Bay and simply traveling, Chinese tourists have recently been interested in other destinations, such as Yen Tu and using MICE tourism products (tourism combined with conferences, seminars, etc.).
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of Chinese visitors to Quang Ninh always reached over 1 million, of which in 2018 it reached over 1.6 million and in 2019 it was over 1.5 million.
