On the eve of Lunar New Year, the Vietnam Writers Association carries out literary work for the year, presents annual awards, and admits new members.
At the conference, poet Nguyen Quang Thieu - Chairman of the Vietnam Writers Association - reviewed a number of outstanding literary activities in 2024. He affirmed that the conference is the last important activity of the lunar year, before the organization of the 23rd Vietnam Poetry Day, events directed towards Quang Tri to convey the message of peace.
"We will leave behind the worries and anxieties of 2024 to enter a new phase with more dreams and plans. Thank you to the members and accompanying units for your sympathy, reminders, and suggestions to the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Writers' Association. I wish all writers and poets good health and creative inspiration in 2025."
This year, the Vietnam Writers Association Awards continues to search for, discover, and honor outstanding works/authors. The Organizing Committee received 208 entries, of which 7 won prizes.
In the prose category, the short story "On the top of the sky" by writer Y Ban and the novel "Family with 4 sisters" by Pham Thi Bich Thuy were named.
The award-winning poetry collections include "Dong" (Tran Le Khanh), "Vien Ca" (Nguyen Tien Thanh), "Resurrection" (Dao Quoc Minh).
In the theoretical criticism category, critic Tran Hoai Anh won the prize with his theoretical work "Theory of Southern literary criticism 1954 - 1975: Reception and application".
There was no prize-winning work in translated literature. In the children's literature category, "The Flying Bus" by Mai Chi and Huynh Long won.
The Young Author Award went to Vo Dang Khoa with his work "Flying Camel" and Phung Huong Ly - author of "Under the Arch of Great Flower".
The 2024 Impressive Female Writer Award - a new category of the Vietnam Writers Association Awards - went to poet Do Thi Tac and writer Doan Phuong Huyen.
Receiving the award from the Vietnam Writers' Association, poet Phung Huong Ly shared her feelings: "I am very moved and it is difficult to express this joy. The Young Author Award is a recognition from the Vietnam Writers' Association and the jury for me. This is a great encouragement for me in my creative journey, to keep the flame of passion burning and to have more valuable works contributing to the country's literature."
