Vinh Long - In the first 9 months of 2025, there were 125 landslides on riverbanks and coasts in Vinh Long province, with a total length of more than 7.2 km.

On November 1, a source from a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper said that Mr. Lam Van Tan - Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Vinh Long province signed a report on the situation of riverbank and coastal erosion occurring in the area to the People's Committee of Vinh Long province.

According to this report, from the beginning of 2025 to September 29, 2025, there have been 125 landslides on riverbanks and coasts in the province with a total length of 7,296m, affecting 531 households, with estimated damage of more than 24.3 billion VND. The landslides have seriously affected production and people's lives, especially in densely populated areas along main rivers and large canals.

25 communes and wards in the province need to be considered for financial support to overcome landslides with a total of 39 projects, with a landslide length of 4,127m, estimated at a total cost of about 39.054 billion VND. In addition, 16 other localities have also proposed to support the construction of landslide remediation works.

Currently, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Vinh Long province has issued a document responding to the proposal of the People's Committees at the commune level or reporting to the Provincial People's Committee for consideration and direction to organize implementation, including: Emergency embankment of the law on the banks of Hau River (Vam Dinh Hamlet, Ba Bay, Rach Dui, Xeo Can, Phong Thanh Commune) with a length of 262m; Emergency landslide repair of the North Tra Cu Canal embankment (Luu Cu 1 Hamlet, Luu Nghiep Anh Commune) with a length of 100m; Anti-erosion embankment of the Giao Hoa River bank, self-managed People's Group No. 6 (Chau Thanh Hamlet, Giao Long Commune) with a length of 60m; Prevention of landslides on the Giong Gioi Dia (Giong Binh Commune, Thinh Long Commune) with a length of 410m; Thien Thanh Commune, Long Nhon (Thien Thanh Quoc) with a length of 400m...

In order to promptly support localities in organizing the implementation of reinforcement and landslide recovery works to ensure the safety of the lives and property of the State and people, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Vinh Long province recommends that the Provincial People's Committee consider and approve the policy of providing advance funds from the Natural Disaster Prevention and Control Fund for localities to implement (only arrange an advance payment of no more than 30% of the total of about 60 billion VND from the Fund, in order to prevent cases arising in natural disaster prevention and control work from now until the end of 2025). After completion, localities will organize settlement in accordance with regulations on management and use of the Fund. At the same time, the Department of Finance is assigned to review and propose the use of the provincial budget reserve in 2025, as well as the price of irrigation public products and services to support the remaining funding according to the proposals of localities.

According to this submission, the Department proposed that the Provincial People's Committee consider and agree on the list of works to submit to the Central Management Board of Investment Irrigation Projects with a total proposed coastline length of 16.6km. The projects are expected to be implemented in the communes and wards: Tan Thuy, Thoi Thuan, Dong Hai and Truong Long Hoa.
