According to the report of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Dong Thap province, the rain with thunderstorms on October 16 in Thanh My commune (Dong Thap province) damaged 14 houses and many fruit trees.

Specifically, on October 16, rain and thunderstorms collapsed 2 houses, blew off the roofs of 12 houses; broke 1 medium-voltage power pole, and broke 2 low-voltage power lines in Thanh My commune. In addition, the tornado also completely broke 5 durian trees and 300 jackfruit trees, causing an estimated loss of about 180 million VND.
Immediately after the tornado occurred, the People's Committee of Thanh My commune coordinated with the Fatherland Front of the commune and mobilized all military and police forces to urgently go to the scene to support people in repairing houses damaged by thunderstorms. Local authorities are pruning fallen trees along the road to facilitate traffic.
By 8:00 p.m. on October 16, the houses damaged by the tornado had been repaired. The area where the thunderstorms occurred has been restored to power, people's lives are stable. Currently, the People's Committee of Thanh My commune continues to organize investigations, assess damages, visit and support affected households according to regulations.

Previously, on the afternoon of October 16, at the Thuong Thoi Tien Embankment project (in Thuong Phuoc commune, Dong Thap province), a serious landslide occurred with a length of 58m.
Specifically, the landslide collapsed the embankment slope with a length of 58m, collapsed a 34m long sidewalk section, creating a "frog's bar" eating about 1m deep into the road. This landslide location is adjacent to the previous landslide site, opposite Nova Thabico Fruit Processing Factory (upstream). Currently, the water is flowing rapidly, there is a possibility of landslides continuing to eat deep into the road and landslides upstream in the coming time.
In this situation, Thuong Phuoc commune continues to strictly prohibit all road and waterway vehicles from accessing the landslide area; continue to cut off traffic in the landslide area (Ngo Quyen street, from Gia Bao Garment Joint Stock Company to the passenger wharf across Muong Mieu river). Along with that, the locality closely monitors the landslide situation to inform, report to superiors to grasp, promptly direct handling; maintain 2 Traffic Regulatory Standing Teams and monitor landslide performances, be on duty 24/7 until the landslide situation is basically stable.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Dong Thap province, since the beginning of the year, there have been 25 rains with thunderstorms, tornadoes, and lightning in the province. Natural disasters caused 2 deaths due to lightning, 22 injuries; 757 houses collapsed and had their roofs blown off (collapsed: 75 houses, blown off: 682 houses), 21 barns, warehouses, garages, signs... were damaged; 11 classrooms; 43 electric poles were knocked down; 3 energy lights, 1,450 m of lighting; many crops were damaged, including 7,981 fruit trees of all kinds and many other crop areas. The total damage was more than 34.4 billion VND.
