On January 21, information from Thanh Hoa Children's Hospital said that they are actively treating 3 pediatric patients admitted to the hospital in a state of decreased consciousness, nausea and vomiting, suspected of poisoning due to drinking milk tea containing rat poison.

According to initial information, at about 10 pm on January 19, the hospital received 3 pediatric patients who are sisters in the same family, admitted to the hospital in quite serious condition. The pediatric patients include: B.T.H.Q. (born 2014), B.T.H.P. (born 2019) and B.T.H.T. (born 2020), residing in Thach Quang commune, Thanh Hoa province.
When admitted to the hospital, the children were diagnosed with rat poisoning (suspected to be due to sodium fluoroacetate). Immediately after that, the patients were transferred to the Emergency - Intensive Care and Poison Control Department, Thanh Hoa Children's Hospital for treatment.
Doctors and nurses have provided respiratory support, used antibiotics, compensated for fluids and electrolytes, reduced the absorption of toxins, provided nutritional support and detoxification by increasing urination.
By the morning of January 21, the health of the children had improved. Among them, patient B.T.H.Q. progressed better but still vomited, no heartbeat disorders appeared, had awareness and contact. Patient B.T.H.P. had slow contact, still had nausea and vomiting yellow fluid, no heartbeat disorders were recorded. Patient B.T.H.T. was still in a state of reduced consciousness, coma, multiple prolonged whole-body convulsions, with heart damage and heartbeat disorders, and is undergoing continuous blood filtration.
According to the family, before that, the children were given milk tea by their biological mother, B.T.N. (born 1991), suspected of mixing rat poison. After drinking, the children developed abdominal pain, headache, nausea, vomiting, so they were taken to Cam Thuy General Hospital for first aid. After that, the children were transferred to Ngoc Lac Regional General Hospital for vomiting, gastric lavage and intravenous fluids. On the night of January 19, the children continued to be transferred to Thanh Hoa Children's Hospital for emergency and treatment.
Also according to initial information, in addition to the 3 young children, the mother is also suspected of drinking rat poison and is currently being treated and ventilated at Thanh Hoa Provincial General Hospital in a coma.
The initial cause of the incident was determined to be family conflicts, the mother in anger had foolish behavior.
The case is being verified and clarified by functional agencies.
