The Inspectorate of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Bac Lieu province issued Decision No. 208/QD-BTH-TTr forcing the destruction of 120 illegally transported pigs, with test results positive for African swine fever (ASFV) and assisted reproductive and respiratory disorder syndrome in North American pigs (PRRS).

These pigs were discovered in the early morning of June 14 on truck 94H-004.27 driven by Mr. Vo Trung Kien (born in 1999, residing in Cho Moi district, An Giang province), transporting from Can Tho to Bac Lieu without an animal quarantine certificate. Immediately after the discovery, the Inspection Team temporarily detained the vehicle, took samples for examination and sent them to the Veterinary Department of Region VII for testing.
Test results on June 17 determined that the pig's organ culture samples were positive for both of the above dangerous infectious diseases. The functional sector of Bac Lieu province quickly decided to destroy all pigs to prevent the disease from spreading.

However, during the implementation of the destruction measures on June 19, in reality, only 70 pigs were destroyed in Ninh Hoa hamlet, Ninh Quoi A commune, Hong Dan district. The cause of the number of destroy is lower than the initial decision and is being verified by a professional agency.
In addition to the form of forced destruction, Mr. Vo Trung Kien was also administratively fined VND 7 million according to Decision No. 207/QD-XPHC issued by the Chief Inspector of the Department on the same day. The owner is also required to commit not to repeat the offense, and is only allowed to transport and trade animals after completing all quarantine procedures according to regulations.
The Department of Agriculture and Environment of Bac Lieu province said that it will continue to closely monitor the epidemic situation at livestock facilities in the area and strictly handle violations related to the transportation and trading of animals that do not ensure quarantine.
