According to some drivers, on the evening of February 6, while they were traveling on National Highway 45 - Nghi Son (from Thanh Hoa - Hanoi), when they reached Trung Chinh commune, Nong Cong district, they encountered a rather dangerous situation when the expansion joint burst.
Mr. Bui Quang De (residing in Thai Binh province) said that at around 5:40 p.m. on February 6, while driving a car with license plate 17A-45.xxx on the highway in the direction of Thanh Hoa - Ninh Binh, he had an accident at Km341+080 (section through Trung Chinh commune, Nong Cong district), when the expansion joint on the highway popped up, causing both tires of his car to explode.
According to Mr. De, not only his vehicle, there were about 3 other cars, including a truck and two cars, that also had a similar accident. However, his car was the most seriously damaged, both tires were blown out, the remaining cars only had one tire and the drivers had to change the spare tire to continue the journey. After the incident, he reported it to the expressway operator and hoped for a support policy to reduce repair costs.
According to the representative of the management and operation unit of National Highway 45 - Nghi Son, after receiving information about the incident, the unit sent functional forces to temporarily handle the situation.
"Every day, the unit organizes forces to inspect the route, especially the bridge expansion joints. This is an unfortunate incident. For now, we have sent forces to fix the problem to ensure safe traffic. At the same time, we will report to Project Management Board 2 (Ministry of Transport) to promptly direct the contractor to repair the damaged expansion joints" - a representative of the expressway management and operation unit informed.
