World Environment Day June 5 is an important international environmental event launched by the United Nations Environment Program and has been responded to by Vietnam annually since 1982 until now.
In 2025, the theme chosen is "Anti-polluting plastic", to call on the global community to join hands to solve plastic waste - one of the most urgent environmental challenges today.

According to the report of the United Nations Environment Program, the world produces about 430 million tons of plastic each year, of which more than 2/3 are single-use products, quickly becoming waste, causing environmental pollution, seriously affecting the ecosystem and human health.
In Vietnam, an estimated 1.8 million tons of plastic waste are generated each year, but only about 27% is recycled. Most of the remaining plastic waste is buried, burned or discharged directly into the environment, posing many potential risks of soil, water and air pollution.

And in Binh Dinh province, the total amount of household waste generated daily is about 1,000 tons, of which about 100 tons is plastic waste. However, the collection, classification and recycling work still has many limitations and has not been implemented synchronously and effectively.
Speaking at the ceremony, Permanent Vice Chairman of Binh Dinh Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Tuan Thanh said that from 2023 to present, the province has focused on directing and implementing many solutions to thoroughly solve the problem of household waste, especially plastic waste. The province also calls for investment in building waste treatment plants using advanced technology, gradually replacing open-air landfills that pollute the environment.

To date, the rate of domestic waste collection and treatment in urban areas of the province has increased from 83% to 94.82%, while in rural areas it has increased from 53% to 78.82%. Socialization and investment attraction in the environmental sector have achieved many positive results in some localities.
The Vice Chairman of Binh Dinh Provincial People's Committee called on all people to change their behavior and consumption habits to minimize waste generation; actively implement the movement of " say no to single-use plastic products", contributing to building Binh Dinh to be increasingly green - clean - beautiful, becoming an attractive destination for domestic and international tourists.
Immediately after the launching ceremony, many response activities took place such as: " exchanging garbage for gifts", "Sharing old things", planting trees and cycling to parade and propagate on some streets in Van Canh town (Van Canh district).
