On November 26, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province said that, in response to the landslide situation on the Vinh Dinh riverbank through Trieu Hoa commune (Trieu Phong district, Quang Tri province) after heavy rains, the authorities went to inspect and determined that the landslide situation was quite serious.
There are 3 dangerous landslide sections of riverbank with a total length of about 1,000m, of which 250m of riverbank landslide threatens the safety of more than 15 households, production land, and inter-commune traffic routes.
Faced with this situation, the implementation of solutions to overcome the landslide on the Vinh Dinh riverbank through Trieu Hoa commune is extremely necessary and urgent, so the People's Committee of Quang Tri province has assigned the People's Committee of Trieu Phong district to deploy temporary reinforcement solutions to limit the expansion of the landslide area; arrange warning signs in dangerous areas and propagate people to be ready to evacuate, and deploy safety plans in case of emergency.
In the long term, to overcome the erosion of Vinh Dinh riverbank through Trieu Hoa commune, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province assigned the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to study solutions to overcome the erosion to ensure sustainability and stability.
Previously, Lao Dong Newspaper reported on the complicated situation of landslides on the banks of Vinh Dinh River that has been occurring since early November 2024 after heavy rains. In some places, the riverbanks have eroded deep into people's gardens, and in some places, they are only 3 meters away from the walls of people's houses. According to the People's Committee of Trieu Hoa Commune, landslides on the banks of Vinh Dinh River are becoming more and more complicated, threatening many areas of agricultural land, traffic works and people's lives.
It is known that in Quang Tri province, the situation of riverbank and coastal erosion is very complicated. At the end of 2022, the bank of Thach Han River through Quang Tri town collapsed, dragging many houses into the river, killing 1 person under the rubble. Due to budget difficulties, the implementation of embankments to prevent erosion in many seriously eroded sections has not been carried out.
