Creating livelihood opportunities for poor workers
Buon Don commune (Dak Lak province) has an area of 1,113.79km2 and is the largest commune-level administrative unit in Vietnam. The whole commune has 7 villages and hamlets. In particular, many areas have a large population of ethnic minorities, are in a particularly difficult situation, and border Cambodia.
In the past 5 years, the commune has reduced the number of poor households by about 5% each year. It is expected that by 2025, the whole commune will have about 570 poor households and more than 200 near-poor households.
However, one of the biggest obstacles to local poverty reduction is the low level of education in some areas. A part of the people in poor and near-poor households still rely on and rely on the support of the State, not fully aware of the importance of escaping poverty by themselves.

Ms. H'Trang Siu (residing in Buon Don commune) is 40 years old this year but has not yet escaped the poverty line. Due to difficult family economic conditions, she has relied on the support of the State for many years.
Ms. H'Trang shared: "When I reached middle age, the local government encouraged me to try to escape poverty. Many people in the village have escaped poverty, so I want to be like them.
Therefore, in October 2025, I registered to attend a buffalo and cow raising class organized by the locality with the hope of rising up and having the conditions to renovate my house."

Also related to Ms. H'Trang, Ms. H'Thuy Knul is always struggling to find a way out of poverty. For many years, Ms. H'Thuy has worked for hire in many jobs, but with a small income, her family's economy has not improved effectively.
She said she had registered to attend a livestock training class in the hope of gradually stabilizing her life. Because developing household livestock is considered the shortest way to rise on a land with many difficulties.
Effective promotion of sustainable poverty reduction
Buon Don commune has a large ethnic minority, limited working qualifications and high poverty rate.
Faced with that reality, in recent years, the locality has proactively built vocational training programs associated with market demand. Thereby creating stable livelihoods and increasing income for people, especially in remote areas.

Mr. Le Thanh Son - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Buon Don commune - said that from the resources of the national target program, the commune identified expanding vocational training models combined with practice as an important task.
In particular, the locality encourages businesses to participate in training programs through support and incentive mechanisms. The commune will also continue to prioritize vocational training for poor households, near-poor households, ethnic minorities and vulnerable groups.
Thereby, to ensure that all people have the opportunity to access careers and jobs effectively.

Connecting vocational training with sustainable poverty reduction is not only an economic solution but also creates a long-term driving force to improve the quality of life for people. Thereby contributing to promoting the socio-economic development of ethnic minority areas in the area in the period of 2025 - 2030", Mr. Son emphasized.
