Ca Mau has taken 422 biological samples of martyrs' remains that have not been identified, prepared for DNA testing, and called on people to provide information to serve the search and repatriation.

Many new sources after a day of issuing call letters

Just one day after the Steering Committee for searching, repatriating and identifying martyrs' remains (Steering Committee 515) of Ca Mau province issued a letter calling for information about martyrs' graves, many officials and people proactively provided important focal points to serve the search and repatriation work.

On July 31, the Military Command of Ca Mau province - the Standing Agency of the Provincial Steering Committee 515 - said that the locality had received many sources of information from localities such as Tri Phai, An Xuyen, Tan Thanh, Chau Thoi, Dong Hai... Immediately after receiving the information, military forces and local authorities urgently surveyed and verified to clarify the information.

Specifically on July 31, the Military Command of Dong Hai commune received information about a tomb suspected to be the tomb of a martyr who sacrificed during the resistance war against the French colonialists being buried in the area. The information provider is Mr. Bui Quoc Linh, currently working at the Department of Culture and Social Affairs of Dong Hai commune. According to functional forces, this is valuable information, which is being inspected and compared with related documents.

Steering Committee 515 of Ca Mau province continues to call on agencies, units, veterans, former youth volunteers, relatives of martyrs and people inside and outside the province to provide information about martyr burial locations, collective graves, individual graves, old terrain markers, combat diagrams, memoirs, diaries, images and related documents. All information is received and kept confidential according to regulations to serve the verification, search and repatriation work.

Many biological samples are being prepared for DNA testing.

Along with expanding information collection from the people, Ca Mau is accelerating the collection of biological samples of remains of unidentified martyrs for DNA testing.

According to the Steering Committee 515 of Ca Mau province, as of July 29, functional forces have collected 422 biological samples at Phuoc Long Martyrs' Cemetery. It is expected that on August 3, 2026, all samples will be handed over to the Institute of Criminal Science (Ministry of Public Security) for DNA testing, serving the identification of martyrs.

In parallel with taking samples, functional forces also strengthened field surveys. Through verification, information was recorded about 2 martyrs' graves in Bien Bach commune; and at the same time coordinated with Team K90 (Political Department of Military Region 9) to repatriate 2 sets of martyrs' remains at Hung My temporary cemetery.

Mr. Ngo Vu Thang - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Head of Steering Committee 515 of Ca Mau province - said that the locality is drastically implementing the "500-day and night campaign to search, collect and identify the remains of martyrs", striving to complete the sampling of remains of unidentified martyrs in 2026, exceeding the progress assigned by the Central Government.

According to the plan, by the end of 2026, Ca Mau province will complete sampling for 3,382 sets of martyrs' remains at 11 cemeteries in the area. Combining DNA testing with expanding information collection from witnesses, veterans and people is expected to shorten the time to identify identities, helping many martyrs return to their names and homeland soon.
