On the afternoon of March 3, the specialized agency of Cam Lam commune inspected and determined that the phenomenon of live herring drifting into Bai Dai area was a natural development, which had occurred many years ago.
According to Mr. Huynh Uy Vien - Chairman of Cam Lam Commune People's Committee, this phenomenon appears at the time when herring enters the breeding season, usually around March every year.
When it is time to lay eggs, fish tend to swim near the shore. If encountering big waves or sudden changes in flow, the school of fish is easily drifted to the sandy beach.
Reports from the locality said that this is not the first time such a situation has occurred. In previous years, this area also recorded anchovies coming near the shore during the breeding season.
However, because there were no images circulating on social networks, the incident received little attention.
Local people are therefore not too surprised by the phenomenon of seasonal stranded fish.
Previously, on the same morning, Mr. Le Thanh Hoan (local resident) while walking at Bai Dai beach discovered a large amount of live herring scattered on the sand. Fish trails stretched hundreds of meters along the coast, dense in patches.
According to records, the amount of fish is estimated at a few quintals, mostly fresh and still struggling when swept ashore by waves. Seeing the fish stranded, many people and tourists picked them up to process.
Local authorities said they have monitored the situation and have not recorded any signs of abnormalities related to the seawater environment.
