On August 24, the Can Tho City Traffic and Agricultural Construction Investment Project Management Board said that the groundbreaking ceremony for the bridge and road project leading to the Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy Resettlement Area to Cuu Long Resettlement Urban Area (also known as Tran Bach Dang Bridge), is expected to take place on September 2, 2026.
The project was started in 2016 and started construction in 2018, with the expectation of creating a connecting route between An Khanh ward (old Ninh Kieu district), now Tan An ward, and Long Hoa ward (old Binh Thuy district), now Long Tuyen ward.
However, the project once fell into a state of stagnation. Some new items have only been unfinished, materials are left outdoors for a long time, rusty, degraded, causing waste and affecting the travel of people in the area.
Faced with the prolonged interruption of the connection route, at the end of 2025, local people contributed labor and money to build a temporary road. In just about 10 days, the temporary road was completed, partly solving the immediate travel needs of the people.
According to the approved scale, the starting point of the project is adjacent to Tran Bach Dang street in Tan An ward, the ending point intersects with Lang Hoa street in Long Tuyen ward. The total length of the route is about 155m, including a reinforced concrete bridge across Ba Bo canal.
The project has a total investment of more than 74 billion VND. When completed, the project is expected to complete the traffic infrastructure system in Tan An and Long Tuyen wards, and at the same time increase the connectivity between residential areas on both sides of Ba Bo canal.
According to the Can Tho City Traffic and Agricultural Construction Investment Project Management Board, putting the road into operation is expected to open more traffic directions, serve transportation and promote socio-economic development of the area; create conditions for the development of residential areas and craft villages, and at the same time contribute to reducing vehicle density on main roads.
After many years of waiting, the project being restarted on the occasion of National Day September 2 is expected by local people to soon turn the previously unfinished connecting route into a complete traffic project, meeting the travel and urban development needs of Can Tho City.
