According to reporters along National Highway 91 in Binh Thuy District, Can Tho City, construction units are urgently repairing damaged sections after the high tide of the 15th day of the 9th lunar month.
A road patching worker said that the first step is to fix the seriously degraded sections of the road, especially the large holes, and then complete the slightly damaged sections of the road.
It was observed that many road surfaces here are peeling, with potholes and gravel appearing, posing a potential risk of accidents for road users.
As a resident living near the intersection of Le Hong Phong Street (National Highway 91) - Lac Long Quan Street (Binh Thuy District), Mr. Vo Van Tam said that this degraded part of the road had previously been patched and repaired by a man who specializes in charity work, but after a period of high tides and prolonged heavy rain, the road was severely damaged again.
“During high tides, these roads are often flooded, and the high traffic density has caused the road surface to peel off and form large water-filled holes,” said Mr. Tam.
Mr. Tran Cong Thanh - a resident on Le Hong Phong Street (National Highway 91) - said that after the high tide, collisions and traffic accidents often occur at the damaged road in front of his house, mainly involving women with weak driving skills.
Speaking with Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Mai Minh Ngoan - Chief of Office of Traffic Safety Committee (ATGT) of Can Tho City - informed that due to high tides combined with storms, some roads in the area are experiencing damaged, slippery road surfaces, many potholes, causing a very high risk of traffic safety and traffic accidents.
“Immediately after the high tide receded, the City Traffic Safety Committee proactively coordinated with functional units and the People's Committees of districts to proactively review, compile a list and deploy road maintenance and repair,” said Mr. Ngoan.
Particularly for National Highway 91B and National Highway 91, after inspection, it was found that the road surface was severely damaged. The City Traffic Safety Committee coordinated and requested Road Management Area 4.5 (the unit directly managing these routes) to direct the contractor to promptly repair the damaged areas, and first of all, have plans to ensure traffic safety.
“We have actively implemented and will monitor to ensure progress, helping traffic participants to be safe and convenient,” said Mr. Ngoan.
