Can Tho - Can Tho City People's Committee requested sectors and localities to strengthen inspection and strictly handle IUU violations.

Can Tho City People's Committee has just issued an official dispatch requesting departments, branches, functional forces and People's Committees of communes and wards with fishing vessels to urgently and seriously and effectively implement tasks on combating illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing in the area.

Accordingly, the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the City Police, the Border Guard Command and the People's Committees of communes and wards with fishing vessels are assigned to focus on directing and allocating resources to organize the synchronous and effective implementation of tasks and solutions to combat IUU fishing, ensuring progress and specific products according to the direction of the Secretariat, the Government and the Prime Minister.

The City People's Committee requests units to resolutely implement and "fight" all IUU violations, and be responsible to the City Party Committee, the People's Committee and the Chairman of the City People's Committee if violations occur. In case of local fishing vessels violating IUU, they will be considered and handled according to Directive No. 32-CT/TW dated by the Secretariat and legal regulations for local Party committees, authorities, units and individuals who do not strictly perform assigned tasks and do not make progress in combating IUU fishing.

Accordingly, the Department of Agriculture and Environment is assigned to advise on policies on job conversion and localization for fishing vessels that no longer need to be exploited; support VMS connection; announce and put into operation fishing ports (including private private private fishing ports). Ensure that 100% of fishing vessels with a distance of 15m or more carry out procedures for leaving, arriving at the port and electronic fishing logs on the eCDT system; require purchasing facilities, processing enterprises, fishing ports to monitor output and electronic traceability; synchronously deploy the eCDT system at all fishing ports.

The City Police focus on verifying and thoroughly handling administrative violations of VMS, crossing permitted boundaries at sea, violating illegal fishing in foreign waters; informing and communicating, publicizing handling results according to regulations to deter and educate; strictly handling organizations and individuals who do not fulfill their duties in performing official duties.

For the People's Committees of communes and wards with fishing vessels, coordinate to review, register, inspect, issue or renew fishing licenses; fully update fishing vessel data into the VnFishbase, VMS and VNeID systems; ensure that 100% of fishing vessels are marked and have their license plates on them in accordance with regulations. Coordinate with the Department of Agriculture and Environment to register fishing vessels and other service vessels according to regulations so that no fishing vessels do not have their license plates or markings when participating in activities in localities according to regulations.
