On January 22, the Office of Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee confirmed that the Provincial People's Committee has just issued a Plan to proactively respond to natural disasters in the period before, during and after the Binh Ngo Lunar New Year 2026. This is considered a quick reaction after functional agencies issued a disaster warning.

According to the assessment of the Dong Thap Provincial Hydrometeorological Station, saltwater intrusion in the province tends to increase during the Lunar New Year.
From February 13 to 18, 2026 (ie, from the 26th of Tet to the 2nd of Tet), on the Tien River, the salinity margin of 4 g/l encroached deep into the fields about 25 - 30 km, then gradually decreased. This intrusion rate is lower than the same period in 2025 by about 5 - 10 km, but still poses a risk of affecting the production and daily life of people in riverside areas and end-of-water areas.

Before the above forecast, Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee requested heads of departments, agencies, and branches of the province and Chairmen of Commune and Ward People's Committees to strengthen close monitoring of weather, hydrological developments, water sources, saltwater intrusion and types of natural disasters that may occur before, during and after the Lunar New Year; proactively implement preventive and response measures suitable to the actual situation.
