On December 19, at the People's Committee of Khanh Hoi commune, U Minh district, Ca Mau province, Squadron 42 - Command (BTL) of Coast Guard Region 4 coordinated with the Mass Mobilization Committee of Ca Mau Provincial Party Committee to organize a conference to propagate the Law on Vietnam Coast Guard; preventing and combating IUU fishing for cadres, party members and fishermen in the area.
Khanh Hoi is a commune with a large number of boats operating in the historical waters between Vietnam and Cambodia, the sea area bordering Malaysia and Cambodia. Therefore, to prevent fishermen from illegally fishing in foreign waters, propaganda work to raise awareness and responsibility for complying with legal regulations must be carried out regularly. Thereby, contributing to the quick removal of the "yellow card" of the European Commission (EC) for the Vietnamese fisheries industry.
At the conference, Lieutenant Colonel Trinh Minh Hien - Political Commissar of Squadron 42 - informed more than 100 delegates about the basic contents of the 2017 Law on Fisheries of Vietnam, the 2018 Law on Vietnam Coast Guard and legal documents on IUU prevention and control; guidance on the application of some provisions of the Penal Code on criminal prosecution for acts related to illegal exploitation, trading and transportation of aquatic products.
Activities to propagate, disseminate and educate the law on combating IUU fishing help fishermen raise their awareness and sense of responsibility for exploiting seafood in accordance with the law, and be responsible for a sustainable fishing industry.
