According to records at noon and afternoon on February 21 (the 5th day of Tet), on the Mai Son - National Highway 45 in the direction of Thanh Hoa - Hanoi, the section from Thung Thi tunnel to Ha Long commune intersection (Thanh Hoa province) experienced prolonged congestion, many cars lined up, moving slowly.

Representatives of Highway Traffic Patrol and Control Team No. 3 (Traffic Police Department) said that in the afternoon and early afternoon of the same day, no accidents occurred on the route. However, due to the sudden increase in the number of vehicles from the Central provinces moving to Hanoi and the Northern provinces, local congestion occurred.
According to many drivers traveling on the route, from about nearly 12 pm to early afternoon of the same day, vehicles were still tailing each other, moving in sections through this area.

Meanwhile, in the opposite direction, from Hanoi to Thanh Hoa, the number of vehicles is less, and traffic is basically stable.
According to representatives of Highway Traffic Patrol and Control Team No. 3, in the face of the increasing number of vehicles, functional forces have arranged forces, strengthened regulation, and guided vehicles to move to National Highway 1A to reduce pressure on the expressway.
