After the merger work has stabilized, the Department of Construction of Gia Lai province is actively coordinating with the Ministry of Construction to prepare for the construction steps of the Quy Nhon - Pleiku expressway.
The project starts at National Highway 19B and ends at Ho Chi Minh Road, Gia Lai Province, with a total length of about 125 km.
According to the Department of Construction of Gia Lai province, the expressway project has a route crossing the two passes of An Khe and Mang Yang, where the complex mountainous terrain stretches for many kilometers.
To ensure the project meets the set schedule, the construction unit will use robots to drill tunnels through the mountain after surveying the geological layers. The construction will apply modern technology, mobilize human resources and means, and at the same time select contractors with capacity and experience.

Previously, Project Management Board 2 reported on the design plan for the construction of 3 tunnels, including: An Khe 1 tunnel at Km 35+900 about 1,170m long; An Khe 2 tunnel at Km 37+900 about 860m long and Mang Yang tunnel at Km 79+200 about 3,000m long.
According to the design, each road tunnel location on the expressway will have two tunnels. Each tunnel is 10.55m wide, ensuring two lanes for safe traffic.
Over the past two years, the construction of National Highway 19 connecting forests and seas in Gia Lai province (Project Management Board 2 is the investor) has also been delayed, mainly due to the section passing through An Khe Pass. With a large construction volume, contractors have to tarpaul the mountain to open the road with thousands of cubic meters of rock and soil.
Meanwhile, the daily traffic of transport vehicles and passengers from the plateau down to the coastal plain is quite large. Especially during the rainy season, traffic congestion often occurs.
The Quy Nhon - Pleiku Expressway is designed with 4 lanes, a 24.75m wide roadbed, and a design speed of 100 km/h. However, when vehicles move through An Khe and Mang Yang passes, the maximum speed is only under 80 km/h.
The Quy Nhon - Pleiku expressway project is proposed in the form of public investment, with a total preliminary capital of more than 43,730 billion VND.
The project will contribute significantly to promoting trade, developing logistics services, transporting agricultural products and goods, enhancing inter-regional connectivity, thereby creating momentum for socio-economic development for the region.
At the meeting on socio-economic development tasks on July 4, Gia Lai Provincial Party Secretary Ho Quoc Dung emphasized that, along with the North-South high-speed railway project passing through the area, the Quy Nhon - Pleiku expressway key project will be the first "testing" for leaders of new communes and wards, especially in the work of mobilizing, compensating, and site clearance for construction.
"Whoever cannot do site clearance for dynamic projects should voluntarily request to move to another location, don't say it is too difficult to do. When doing business, there must be products, clear people, clear work, clear responsibilities, Mr. Ho Quoc Dung requested.
