On September 28, 2025, the Ministry of Construction, the Ministry of National Defense, and the People's Committee of Phu Tho province solemnly organized the inauguration ceremony of the new Phong Chau bridge. The project was completed after about 9 months of day and night construction, meeting the expectations of tens of thousands of people in Phu Tho province after the old Phong Chau bridge collapse on September 9, 2024.
Returning to Phong Chau bridge after 100 days of the project being inaugurated, Lao Dong Newspaper reporters noted that at this time, a large number of vehicles on National Highway 32C are traveling through the bridge. With a bridge width of up to 20.5m, including 4 lanes for motorized vehicles and 2 lanes for rudimentary vehicles, people's travel is always ensured smooth.
Mr. Bui Van Tuyen - owner of a business store in the Phong Chau bridgehead area in Van Xuan commune - shared: "The new bridge is very solid and spacious, even though students and workers travel a lot during rush hour, there are no traffic jams. Since the new bridge was built, the bridgehead area has become bustling again, and my business and the households around here have become more prosperous.
Previously, when the old bridge collapsed, my car had to change the route through Ngoc Thap bridge, further, travel longer and lose a number of regular passengers in Tam Nong district, Lam Thao district before. But now the new bridge has been built, everything has returned to the way it was, we people are very happy," Mr. Son - owner of Son Ha passenger car on the Cam Khe - My Dinh route told reporters.
Also according to records, the Red River bank in the Phong Chau bridge area has also been solidly embanked. The stone embankment stretches hundreds of meters from the upper reaches of the bridge down to the former Phong Chau pontoon bridge area, protecting the safety of households living along the river as well as the bridge project.
Phong Chau bridge has just been completed 3 months earlier than the contract milestone, with an excess of nearly 196.6 billion VND compared to the total investment, and an excess of more than 361.2 billion VND compared to the Prime Minister's Capital Allocation Decision (800 billion VND).
To achieve the above results, during the construction process, the contractor, Truong Son Construction Corporation, has upheld the highest sense of responsibility, developed a plan and construction plan in a scientific and detailed manner; mobilized maximum resources, human resources, and modern machinery and equipment to focus on implementing "3 shifts", "4 crews" construction.
The new Phong Chau bridge project has a total length of about 652.88m, of which the bridge length is about 383.3m, width is 20.5m, including three main spans of prestressed reinforced concrete constructed using balanced casting method; combined with access roads at both ends of the bridge according to level III plain road standards, design speed of 80km/h.
Along with that, the bridge has a drilled pile foundation system with a diameter of up to 1.5m, ensuring stability on the complex geology of the Red River...
According to Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Tran Duy Dong, the inauguration of the new Phong Chau bridge earlier than expected is a vivid proof of the spirit of "Army and people with one will", for effective coordination between levels and sectors in solving urgent and practical issues of the people.
The new Phong Chau bridge is designed and built modernly, sustainably, ensuring safety and aesthetics. The bridge has restored traffic on the key National Highway 32C, promoting trade, tourism, services, attracting investment, industrial development, contributing to socio-economic development, ensuring national defense and security, and improving the material and spiritual life of the people.
