At around 4:30 p.m. on June 29, a lantern shop on Dong Khoi Street, Ninh Kieu District, caught fire. According to local residents, the fire may have started from the electric knife bridge on the first floor.

Ms. H, the owner of the incense shop, said that this is a family business, always carefully closing the door and turning off the electric knife bridge at 12 noon every day. However, it is unclear why the incident happened today.
"Although the fire was controlled by the fire department, I am still very excited. Fortunately, there were no human casualties or fires spreading to neighboring houses," Ms. H shared.

Immediately after receiving the report, dozens of officers and soldiers of the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department of Can Tho City Police along with many specialized fire trucks quickly arrived at the scene to put out the fire.
Because the main ingredient in the shop is lamps that can easily catch fire, the authorities had to deploy many quick and drastic fire fighting measures to prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring houses.
By nearly 6:00 p.m. the same day, the fire was basically under control. However, to prevent the risk of the fire breaking out again, the fire fighting force continued to spray water to cool down.
The area where the fire occurred was a crowded road with shops in the center of Can Tho City. To ensure the safety of the people and effectively serve the fire fighting work, the authorities have temporarily blocked both ends of Dong Khoi Street, preventing vehicles from entering and exiting.
Currently, the official cause of the fire and the extent of property damage are still being investigated by the authorities.
