On July 29, Can Thanh Border Guard Station (Ho Chi Minh City Border Guard) said that it had recently received a report from Mr. Vo Duy Lan (born in 1976, residing in Can Gio Commune, Ho Chi Minh City), captain of a seafood fishing boat with registration number SG 2707 TS, about the incident of a vehicle sinking while entering the port.
According to the report, at around 7:00 a.m. on July 27, Mr. Lan and another crew member, Mr. Vo Van Trung, were driving the SG 2707 TS fishing boat from the sea to Can Thanh fishing port. When arriving at a location about 12 nautical miles from Can Gio coast (ated at 10°1650N, 107°0045.2E), the boat suddenly had a problem and sank. The initial cause was believed to be due to strong waves hitting the boat's shell, causing the entire vehicle to sink.
At the time of the incident, Mr. Lan was only able to send a rescue signal via walkie-talkie. About 30 minutes later, fishing boat SG 2773 TS of fisherman Do Van Dung operating near the area approached and promptly brought the two fishermen to shore safely.
Can Thanh Border Guard Station immediately sent a working group to approach the area where the boat sank to verify the information and locate the vehicle. The incident did not cause any human casualties. However, all machinery, equipment, and fishing gear on the SG 2707 TS boat were completely sunk.
Currently, the unit is coordinating with Mr. Vo Duy Lan and other authorities to determine a salvage plan, ensuring safety and minimizing damage to fishermen. The incident has been reported to the Ho Chi Minh City Border Guard Command for further direction and handling.
