National Highway 1 expanded to 10 - 12 lanes
Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc has just issued a decision assigning the task of project preparation and investors to component projects of the project to upgrade and expand National Highway 1 (from Kinh Duong Vuong Street to the border of Long An province).
This project will be implemented under the public-private partnership (PPP) method in the form of a BOT (Build - operate - Transfer) contract.
The scale of the expansion is 60m, with cross-sections to accommodate 10 to 12 lanes. Of which, the main route has a design speed of 80km/h (6 - 8 lanes), while 4 parallel lanes on both sides have a design speed of 60km/h.

The National Highway 1 expansion project is divided into 3 component projects:
Component project 1: Compensation, support, and resettlement in Binh Tan district, invested by the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board.
Component project 2: Compensation, support, and resettlement in Binh Chanh district, prepared by the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board.
Component project 3: Upgrading and expanding National Highway 1 from Kinh Duong Vuong Street to Long An border under the BOT form, with the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport responsible for preparing the project.
The total investment for this project is about VND 16,285 billion, of which the city budget is expected to spend VND 9,611 billion. The project is expected to start construction in 2026 and be completed in 2028.
National Highway 22 expanded to 10 lanes
In addition to National Highway 1, the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee also assigned the project preparation task, the investor of the project to renovate and upgrade National Highway 22, from An Suong intersection to Ring Road 3.
This project is also implemented under the public-private partnership (PPP) method and the BOT contract form, with an expansion scale of 60m.
The route has a total length of more than 8km, designed with 10 lanes with a maximum speed of 80km/h for 4 high-speed lanes, 60km/h for 2 urban road function lanes and 40km/h for 4 internal road function lanes and intersections.

The three component projects of National Highway 22 include:
Component project 1: Compensation, support, resettlement and infrastructure relocation in Hoc Mon district, invested by the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board.
Component project 2: Relocating infrastructure in District 12, invested by the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board.
Component project 3: Invest in the construction and renovation of National Highway 22 under the BOT form, with the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport responsible for preparing the project.
The total estimated investment is about VND10,424 billion, of which the city budget contributes about VND6,234 billion. The project is expected to start construction in 2026 and be completed in 2028.
National Highway 1 and National Highway 22 are two of four projects to upgrade existing roads in Ho Chi Minh City implemented under the BOT method, after Resolution 98 of the National Assembly on piloting specific mechanisms and policies allowed the city to apply.
The projects were approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council in February 2025.
