On July 15, according to PV's investigation, recently, Lai Chau Provincial People's Council issued a resolution on deciding on the policy of converting forest use purposes to other purposes (supplemented for the 2nd time) to implement the Project to Connect Transportation of Northern Mountainous Provinces in the province.
According to the resolution, the total area of forest supplemented and converted is 3.6788 ha, belonging to production forests originating from natural forests.
This area is located in plot 3, sub-zone 412_230, Binh Lu commune, Lai Chau province and is used to meet the requirements of implementing traffic project items, contributing to completing the infrastructure connection network in the northern mountainous region.
The Provincial People's Council assigned the Lai Chau Provincial People's Committee to organize the implementation of the contents of the resolution in accordance with regulations.
In addition, the Standing Committee of the People's Council, committees of the People's Council, delegations and delegates of the Provincial People's Council will perform the task of supervising to ensure that the process of changing forest use purposes takes place in accordance with the law, harmonizing the requirements of transport infrastructure development and forest resource protection.
The addition of forest conversion area is one of the important implementation steps to accelerate the progress of the Project to Connect Transportation in Northern Mountainous Provinces, contributing to improving infrastructure connectivity capacity and creating motivation for socio-economic development for Lai Chau province.
The project connecting transportation to the northern mountainous provinces includes 2 routes with a total length of about 200km.
In which the line connecting Lai Chau with Noi Bai - Lao Cai expressway (through Lao Cai and Lai Chau provinces) with a length of about 147km; the line connecting Nghia Lo with Noi Bai-Lao Cai expressway with a length of about 53km.
This project was started in December 2021 with a total investment of more than 5,370 billion VND, equivalent to 236.673 million USD, including: 188.363 million USD of ADB loans; 4.481 million USD of non-refundable aid from the Government of Australia and 43.829 million USD of counterpart funds from the Government of Vietnam.
