Kien Giang - Project location is in sub-area 62, ecological restoration subdivision of Phu Quoc National Park, Bai Thom commune, Phu Quoc city.

On November 14, the People's Council of Kien Giang province held its 28th session (special session) to pass important draft resolutions. In which, it approved the proposal to decide on the policy of changing the purpose of forest use to another purpose to implement the Rach Tram Eco-tourism and Residential Area Project.

According to the approved resolution, the area approved in principle for changing the purpose of forest use to other purposes is 57.72 hectares for the Rach Tram Eco-tourism and Residential Area project. The project is located in sub-area 62, Phu Quoc National Park ecological restoration subdivision, Bai Thom commune, Phu Quoc city. The forest function is a special-use forest.

Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee said that the project investment contributes to creating momentum for socio-economic development in the northern part of Phu Quoc Island. The project invests in building a complex including resorts, services, hotels, staff accommodation, green parks, water surfaces, parking lots... to meet the needs of domestic and international tourists, adjacent to the natural landscape. Renovating the existing fishing village residential area with fishing wharf, yacht, seafood market, park, entertainment area, sports, square... Building a new fishing village is planned in harmony and in accordance with the General Planning of Phu Quoc City to both create landscape for the entire area and create suitable infrastructure for socio-economic development for the city.

The project investor has completed the steps according to the provisions of the Law on Forest Protection and Development 2004 for the forest land area. In addition, the Rach Tram Eco-tourism and Residential Area project is an eco-tourism, resort, and entertainment project and does not change the purpose of forest use to another purpose in the strictly protected subdivision of the special-use forest.

The area and location of forest use conversion have been removed from the National Forestry Planning for the period 2021-2030 with a vision to 2050 approved in Decision No. 895/QD-TTg dated August 24, 2024 of the Prime Minister and the Provincial Planning approved in Decision No. 1289/QD-TTg dated November 3, 2023 of the Prime Minister.

At the same time, the conversion of forest use to other purposes at the above location does not affect the forest land area allocation target according to Decision No. 326/QD-TTg dated March 9, 2022 of the Prime Minister.
