Reporting to Lao Dong Newspaper, many people in Sa Pa town (Lao Cai province) said that there is currently a project in Ham Rong ward facing a serious risk of landslides due to the impact of storm No. 3 in 2024.
This not only makes it unsafe for people living below the construction but also affects the travel experience of tourists when coming to Sa Pa.
On May 16, as noted by PV Lao Dong Newspaper, in Group 4, Ham Rong ward, there was the operation of JNK accommodation. Around the positive talk of this facility, there have been many deep landslides, close to the building. The risk of the whole building collapsed below.
Through observation, it is easy to see a huge amount of rock and soil blocking the traffic road below.
Along with that, the water supply system here has been buried, causing water to flow onto the road, making the travel of people and tourists more dangerous and risky.
According to local residents, in September 2024, a serious landslide occurred on the Ma Tra - Suoi Ho connecting road in Group 4, Ham Rong ward, on the positive slope.
However, after 9 months, the above incident has not been completely resolved, posing a potential risk of landslides and traffic insecurity on this route.
Sharing with reporters, Mr. Tan A Trang (Sa Pa town) could not help but worry: "This is an accommodation facility that welcomes many tourists. However, nearly a year has passed, and landslide repair has not been completely done. This makes our people worried that every time there is prolonged rain and wind, even a large building can collapse, causing many damages to people and traffic infrastructure".
Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhu Trang (a tourist from Hanoi) said: "Sa Pa has just had a landslide that killed one person, so my family members are very worried. If natural disasters occur, the consequences cannot be predicted. Therefore, we hope that the unit will soon deploy solutions to ensure safety before the flood season".
It is known that the foot of the landslide is the JNK accommodation facility at 046 Dien Bien Phu Street (Ham Rong Ward). For many months, this location has not been reinforced, always in a state of large volumes of rock and soil spilling onto the road, causing traffic obstruction.
Along with that, this is the main traffic route for the people of Ham Rong ward, connecting to Ta Phin commune, with many tourists and accommodation facilities in this area.
Talking to labor, Chairman of the People's Committee of Ham Rong Ward, Mua Ah, said: "The landslide location that people reflect is at JNK accommodation and has occurred from the storm No. 3 in 2024. In this regard, the ward also has a working record with the facility to direct and urge them to overcome it soon. Currently, the unit is conducting Taluy to ensure safety for households."
Regarding the concerns of the people, the leader of Sa Pa Town People's Committee said that this landslide occurred since the time of storm No. 3 last year. Currently, this unit is handling the problem.
Previously, at 4:00 a.m. on May 15, in the area of Group 3, Cau May Ward, Sa Pa Town, a landslide occurred, collapsing a house, killing 1 person.
