At noon on June 10, speaking with Lao Dong, the leader of the People's Committee of Tay Hoa district (Phu Yen) said that the district's specialized departments are seeking opinions from the authorities to proceed with revoking the 3-star OCOP certificate granted to Da Thao coffee products of Dai Doi - Da Thao Private Enterprise.
This move was made after Ms. Dang Thi Hoa Hiep (born in 1972, residing in Tay Hoa district) - the business owner - was prosecuted for the crime of "producing and trading counterfeit food products".
Da Thao coffee products have been granted a 3-star district-level OCOP certificate since 2023, before being discovered to have violated in December 2024. At the time of approval, this product fully met quality criteria.
However, after Ms. Hiep was prosecuted, the locality took necessary steps to revoke the OCOP certificate according to regulations.
As Lao Dong reported, on June 9, the Investigation Police Agency of Phu Yen Province Police issued a decision to prosecute the accused, apply the measure of prohibiting her from leaving her place of residence and the ban on leaving the country for Ms. Hiep. At the same time, a search was conducted at the production facility of this enterprise.
Previously, on April 11, the authorities conducted an administrative inspection at the facility and temporarily detained 6,845 bags of powdered coffee (total weight of more than 3.45 tons), a pickup truck with license plate 78C-064.94, along with many production equipment, packaging and containers of additives for coffee processing.
The investigation agency determined that from December 2024 to April 2025, Dai Than - Da Thao DNTN adjusted the production formula, reducing the caffeine content in Da Thao brand coffee powder products, which was not in accordance with the announced quality.
The total amount of coffee produced by this enterprise during the above period was more than 21 tons, equivalent to 42,187 products. Of which, more than 17.6 tons, equivalent to 35,342 products, have been consumed on the market, earning nearly 1.27 billion VND. The remaining amount has been seized by the authorities.
Ms. Hiep admitted that her act of producing and trading coffee that did not meet the advertised quality, forging the quality of the product, and harming the rights of consumers. Ms. Hiep voluntarily paid 590 million VND to remedy the consequences.
