Police and military do not mind the time to help people in floods

In recent days, heavy rains from Hue, Quang Tri to Khanh Hoa, Quang Ngai have caused many areas to be submerged in water, landslides occurred continuously, traffic was cut off, and many people were injured and killed. In the anxiety of the people in the flooded areas, the image of the police and army soldiers who do not fear danger, wade in floodwaters to evacuate people, rescue, rebuild each roof... once again became a solid support, warming up the strong and stable people's affection.

Flood running at night

In Hue City, from the early morning of November 17, heavy rain caused the river water to rise rapidly, many areas were flooded up to nearly 2m deep. In Dong Thai residential group (Phong Dien), more than 40 households with nearly 110 people were evacuated by the police, army and militia forces that were on duty that night.

The road was deeply flooded, the water flowed rapidly, and in some sections the soldiers had to wade through the cold water up to their chest, but the soldiers did not hesitate. They carried each elderly person, each young child, and moved household belongings to shelters. Some soldiers were tired because they were exhausted, but when they heard it, the last household could not move in time and continued to return.

Dong Thai residents said in tears: "The house was flooded so quickly. Without them, we don't know what to do."

That is also a familiar image along the Bo River, where many fish farming households stay up all night. Not only supporting the evacuation of assets, the authorities also stand guard, encouraging people to stay safe. The handheld flashlights lighting up each section of the river are proof of the uncompromising companionship in times of trouble.

Forest rangers, wade through streams to rescue people in the middle of Khanh Le Pass

Khanh Hoa experienced moments of mourning when prolonged heavy rain caused consecutive landslides. The landslide on Khanh Le Pass caused a passenger bus carrying more than 30 people to collapse, killing and leaving many people missing.

On the night of November 16 and the morning of November 17, the Khanh Hoa Provincial Police, especially the Fire Prevention and Rescue and Rescue Force, were present at the scene. The road to the pass was cut off, rocks and soil continued to flow down, and many new landslides appeared. Unable to approach by motor vehicles, the rescue force had to go through the forest, wade through the slope, carrying cutting equipment and shovels to gradually approach the buried vehicle.

Many officers and soldiers had to squeeze into the cliff, exploring step by step on the slippery gravel, and in some sections, after opening the path, the ground continued to slide down. They work continuously for many hours without stopping.

At 10:00 a.m. on November 17, the last 2 victims were taken out of the car compartment. The image of soldiers with feckish clothes, water-filled clothes, red eyes due to lack of sleep... made many people cry. In hardship, people see the most sacred love.

Helping people rebuild houses in the rain, keeping peace after tornadoes

In Quang Ngai, in the early morning of November 17, a tornado swept through Phuoc Loi and Tan Son villages, Nguyen Nghiem commune, causing 25 houses to have their roofs blown off and many properties swept away. Just a few hours after the natural disaster, Regiment 887, militia and local police forces were present, dividing each task: Re-establishing corrugated iron roofs, clearing bricks and tiles, moving remaining belongings, checking points at risk of collapse.

Many soldiers stand on slippery roofs, working while experiencing strong gusts of wind. Some people were scratched by the hand, only temporarily tied up before continuing work. They simply said: "If the people's house is not finished, we will not rest".

The family of Ms. Thach Thi Muong - who lost almost all of her roof - was moved: "We were very panicked. Thanks to the Army and Police, my family has a temporary shelter. I don't know when I will repay this favor."

Also at many flooded areas, commune police officers are on duty 24/7, protecting people's temporary relocation of assets, instructing people to stay away from the high water, beware of overflowing underground, and place warning signs. They work quietly, sleeping in a flash amidst the heavy rain.

Floods challenge, the love between the army and the people is stronger

Each flood is a harsh test. But it is in that danger that the love of the army and people is even more clearly and moving.

In Hue, children were carried by soldiers through deep water to safety. In Khanh Hoa, rescue forces lined up to help each victim and each body out of the rubble. In Quang Ngai, the soldiers - police and people built ladders, held roofs, and built nails in the strong wind.

Although the rain has not stopped and the water is still rising, wherever there is danger, the shadow of the blue- shirts and soldiers can be seen. Slatter shoes, swollen hands due to cold, face of the pageant but eyes are still full of determination.

They did not just save people in a flood. They bring the belief that even if natural disasters strike, people are not alone.

Doing it for the people, for the people, forgetting oneself

That is the motto that the armed forces of localities always uphold. From evacuating people, rescuing, building houses, blocking and warning, to taking care of every battle meal for victims - all come from the spirit of serving the people.

In Official Dispatch 217, the Government requested emergency flood response. But before the executive order, the soldiers understood their duties: They must be present at the front line, must protect people's lives at all costs.

In each area, each river section, each roof that is still struggling after storms and floods, there will still be hands ready to turn out, feet ready to step up. That spirit, the love of the people, the love of compatriots, is always a fulcrum for people to stand up after natural disasters.

Previously, on November 16, Party Central Committee member, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha signed Official Dispatch No. 217 of the Prime Minister requesting ministries, branches and localities to proactively prevent and respond to floods in the Central region, strictly control the safety of dams, be on duty to warn of deep flooding and landslides, and organize the evacuation of people in dangerous areas when necessary.

The authorities recommend that people continue to monitor forecasts, follow instructions to ensure safety, do not be subjective when crossing overflow culverts and areas with fast-flowing water; aquaculture households proactively reinforce cages and relocation plans when water levels rise.
