On January 2, the Traffic Police Department (PC08) of Ho Chi Minh City Police (PC08) said that in the early days of 2026, in some suburban areas of Ho Chi Minh City, many serious traffic accidents occurred, causing damage to people and property.
Through analysis, the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Police force determined that the main cause stemmed from subjectivity and disregard for safety regulations when driving vehicles.
According to statistics, during the Tet holidays, about 48% of traffic accidents (TNGT) occur due to drivers not paying attention to observation, not keeping safe distances; about 36% of cases originate from acts of going in the wrong lane, lane, changing direction and overtaking vehicles not in accordance with regulations. The common point of accidents is the subjectivity and lack of awareness of traffic law compliance of drivers.
Common violations include: speeding, reckless overtaking; going in the wrong lane and lane; changing directions without ensuring safety; not paying attention to observation and not keeping distance from vehicles in front.
Faced with the above situation, Ho Chi Minh City traffic police recommend that people when participating in traffic should strictly comply with legal regulations: if they have drunk alcohol or beer, do not drive; comply with speed and lane; pay attention to observation, maintain safe distance; do not speed, overtake recklessly and absolutely do not be subjective in any situation.
During the peak period before, during and after the Binh Ngo Lunar New Year, the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Police force will continue to strengthen patrols, inspections, and strictly handle violations that are direct causes of traffic accidents, especially alcohol concentration violations, speeding, not complying with traffic light signals, going in the wrong lanes and road sections; at the same time, promote handling of violations through the surveillance camera system.
