On the morning of July 31, Mr. Tran Minh Duc - Head of the Management Board of Nghi Xuan Public Services and Tourist Sites - said that at around 5:30 p.m. on July 30, Mr. Nguyen Thanh T (born in 1990, residing in Nghe An province) and his daughter Nguyen Tran Phuong A (born in 2019) were swimming at Xuan Thanh tourist area.
While swimming, Mr. T and his son wore a life jacket and used a Kayak jacket (a small boat-like jacket).
At around 8:30 p.m. the same day, the authorities received a report that Mr. T and his son were swept away by waves, so forces including the rescue team of the Public Service Management Board and Nghi Xuan tourist attractions, Coast Guard, police, border guards and many fishing boats organized the search that night.
At 6:00 a.m. this morning (July 31), the Nghi Xuan Public Service and Tourist Destination Management Board received information that a cargo ship was on its way to Vung Ang port and caught Mr. T and his son drifting at sea near Mat Island (about 18 nautical miles from shore), so they rescued him and put him on the boat.
The cargo ship to rescue Mr. T and his son is the VINASINE 555 (number QN-8425), commanded by captain Tran Dinh Hai (born in 1981).
According to Mr. Duc, the Coast Guard ship is currently approaching the cargo ship to receive and bring Mr. T and his son to shore, expected to be brought to the coastal area of Dan Hai commune (old Xuan Pho commune).
