Rescued Russian kitesurfers drifting away from shore

Binh Thuan - A Russian tourist playing kitesurfing at sea drifted about 5 nautical miles from shore and was searched by authorities and brought to shore.

On the morning of January 26, Mui Ne Border Guard Station said it had searched for and rescued a foreign tourist who drifted far from shore while kitesurfing.

Previously, on the afternoon of January 25, Mr. Aleksandra (born in 1980, Russian nationality, staying at a hotel in Ham Tien ward, Phan Thiet city) used his own kiteboard to go surfing at the beach in Ham Tien ward, Phan Thiet city, Binh Thuan province.

During his surfing trip, due to bad weather, he drifted to a location about 5 nautical miles from Mui Ne Bay. While surfing, Mr. Aleksandra was wearing a GPS watch. That evening, the hotel receptionist went to Mui Ne Border Guard Station to report the incident.

The border guard station mobilized a fishing boat with 6 people to go to the location where the male tourist was drifting to search and assist in the rescue. At about 1:30 a.m. on January 26, the search force discovered, rescued and brought Mr. Aleksandra onto the fishing boat at a location about 1.5 nautical miles from Ong Dia Beach and brought him safely to shore.
