At the regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam on the afternoon of April 24, Vietnamese Foreign Ministry spokesman Pham Thu Hang answered the press's question about the information published in the New York Times, saying that the US President Donald Trump's administration asked the country's officials not to attend the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and the reunification of Vietnam's country.
Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said: "We do not know the accuracy of this information in the New York Times".
The spokesperson emphasized: "The victory on April 30 is a victory of conscience, of justice, ending the painful loss not only for the Vietnamese people but also for many American families".
According to the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, recent years have witnessed great efforts by many generations of Vietnamese people and Americans to develop the relationship between the two countries as it is today.
Commemorating April 30 is an occasion to honor the eternal values of the spirit of peace, of reconciliation and healing, of the spirit of putting the past behind and towards the future.
From being former friends, Vietnam and the US have normalized and established diplomatic relations in 1995, established a Comprehensive Partnership in 2013 and most recently upgraded the relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for peace, cooperation and sustainable development.
"The continued strong development of Vietnam - US relations is in line with the common aspirations of the people of the two countries, contributing to peace, stability of cooperation and development in the region as well as in the world" - Ms. Pham Thu Hang emphasized.
Also in the press conference, answering the press's question about inviting Chinese, Laos and Cambodia soldiers to celebrate the 30.4 victory, Ms. Pham Thu Hang shared: The 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South, the reunification of the country is an extremely important event, especially important not only for the Vietnamese people but also deeply for international friends who have accompanied and supported the Vietnam. Especially China, Laos and Cambodia are three neighboring countries with traditional friendship and long -standing friendship with Vietnam.
"We are pleased to have the participation of the military forces of Laos, China, and Cambodia in the parade, demonstrating the increasingly strong solidarity, friendship, and cooperation between Vietnam and other countries," said Ms. Pham Thu Hang.
Regarding the response of guests attending the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day, Ms. Pham Thu Hang revealed: "Up to now, accepting Vietnam's invitation, we have had confirmation to attend the ceremony of many high-ranking leaders, party delegations, representatives of a number of international organizations, peace movements, anti-war movements and international friends, including the US".
