The road from Tan Trao to Den Cam in Tuyen Quang province started construction in 2020 and was put into use from the end of 2022.
The project is nearly 12km long, worth more than 147 billion VND from World Bank loans under the Northern Mountainous Urban Program, constructed by Hoang Dan Investment and Construction Co., Ltd.
According to the design, the roadbed is 7m wide, the road surface is 5m wide, and some locations are installed with guardrails and rock embankments to prevent landslides. Crossing the Dum mountain range, the road is considered the most dangerous in the center of Tuyen Quang province with many hairpin curves.
PV's records show that dozens of landslide points with jagged positive taluy have appeared on the entire route, soil and rocks are scattered and spill onto the road surface and drainage ditches. Some locations have cracked road surfaces and shoulders even though the traffic density on the route is quite sparse. On the entire route, many locations have to break rocky mountains to open roads, forming tens of meters high vertical positive taluy banks. However, the surface of the jagged and carved banks has not been reinforced or leveled, causing landslides and rolling rocks to appear continuously.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh An (Nong Tien ward) said that although this road has only been put into use for a few years, many landslide points have appeared, especially the situation of large rock blocks blocking the road.
Every time it rains, soil and rocks from the embankment flap down and spill all over the road. One side is a mountain cliff, the other side is a deep abyss, so I am very worried every time I move through this area. The road has many sharp bends, so it is very dangerous, especially when it rains or in the evening there is no electric light" - Mr. An worried.
Sharing the same worry, Ms. Nguyen Thi Tam (Nong Tien ward, Tuyen Quang province) is upset about the continuous appearance of rolling rocks. "Sometimes there are large rocks rolling down from the cliffs blocking the road. The mountain pass road is steep and there are no electric lights, landslides and rolling rocks occur continuously, making everyone very worried. Many traffic accidents have occurred here" - Ms. Tam said.
Also according to Ms. Tam, people hope that functional agencies will soon clear weeds as well as have solutions to reinforce the taluy points that are frequently landslides to make travel safer.
According to the Department of Construction of Tuyen Quang province, after operating the 2-level local government apparatus, the road from Tan Trao to Den Cam has been assigned to Nong Tien ward for management responsibility. Talking to PV, a representative of the Economic, Infrastructure and Urban Department of Nong Tien ward said that this unit has grasped the information that the Tan Trao road to Den Cam is landslide and is conducting inspection and remediation.
After the rains and floods at the end of 2025, many landslide points have appeared on the entire route, affecting traffic and posing potential safety risks. Functional agencies are statistically assessing landslide locations to have handling directions" - Nong Tien Ward's Economic, Infrastructure and Urban Department informed.
