The North-South high-speed railway project is about 1,541 km long, with a design speed of 350 km/h, public investment with a total of more than 67 billion USD, starting point at Ngoc Hoi Station (Hanoi), ending point at Thu Thiem Station (HCMC).
According to the Da Nang Department of Construction, the section passing through the area is about 116.42 km long, passing through 24 communes and wards; there are expected to be Da Nang Passenger Station, Tam Ky Station, a Chu Lai cargo station and 4 depots.
Preliminary design documents are still stuck with some sensitive locations such as: Tam Ky City Clerical and People's cemetery, Nong Bo cemetery; two provincial-level historical relics (Ngoc Dung tomb, tomb of Teacher Nguyen Duc Huy); Phuoc Thien pagoda and relic stele near the pagoda; Hoa Nhon resettlement area; National Highway 14B - Da Nang - Quang Ngai intersection.

The Department of Construction recommends that the Ministry of Construction direct the Railway Project Management Board to promptly study and agree to adjust the North-South high-speed railway direction through the area to avoid relic sites, cemeteries and existing infrastructure, facilitating site clearance (GPMB) and resettlement.
The People's Committee of Da Nang City also issued Decision 1877/QD-UBND to establish 2 Working Groups for site clearance in the North and South of Thu Bon River with 2 Vice Chairmen of the People's Committee as Heads.
The two groups are responsible for organizing compensation, support, resettlement, ensuring the progress of site handover according to Resolution 172/2024/QH15; proactively handling, proposing to remove obstacles and holding regular meetings to agree on a plan. The Department of Construction is the standing agency, coordinating the implementation consultation.
